Finding the right match for counseling, therapy, and psychotherapy in Ventura

What can you expect in a first session? If you have a bunch of questions - that is completely normal. If you don’t know where to begin, the therapist will guide you.

The first sign it’s a good fit is if you feel at ease with the therapist, even in the first few minutes. By that, I mean it shouldn't feel like a doctor’s office.

You might want to know a little about why the therapist is in this career? Our own stories might give you a sense of the right fit. Don’t worry, we’ll be brief. We want to get into helping YOU.

How long will therapy last? You might be surprised you experience progress more quickly than you expect. Discuss with the therapists the benefits of brief therapy and continuing therapy. Most sessions are 50 minutes, usually once per week, but discuss that right away.

How much will it cost? Think about your budget for therapy. Find out if your therapist is able to adjust the cost depending on frequency of meetings, phone or video sessions, or if you have a flexible schedule, can you join a waitlist in case other clients cancel last-minute.

If the price tag seems high, know that the therapist invested in expert training and many years of practice just to get licensed. Their care and concern is icing on the cake. Ask where you can find lower cost services if necessary. If the fit feels natural and you really like the therapist, they are worth it.

I hope this helps you find the right fit of a therapist in Ventura County. If you are still feeling stuck, check out my earlier blog on how to most easily find more options in therapists in Ventura.
